I haven't ever officially blogged about Project Linus. http://www.projectlinus.com It is a national organization that distributes blankets to terminal ill children or to children who have been in traumatic situations. It was started 11 years ago by a women in Denver, CO. It is has grown tremendously and there are chapters all over the United States. Project Linus has even been featured on Oprah. I decided in November of 2005 that I wanted to apply to open a chapter in Amarillo. The need is obvious and I wanted to do something different with my time. I was a new SAHM and had some extra time on my hands. Or so I thought. After I was approved to be the Amarillo Potter/Randall Counties Chapter Coordinator in March of 2006 I worked my rear off trying to get publicity and noticed by the Amarillo community. I applied (with tremendous help from Amy) for money from a trust of a woman who regularly donated money to non-profits. I contacted the newspaper and got a very nice write-up in the paper with a picture. It was GREAT!! I was so proud of this organization and I really had the spirit in me to move forward with the work it would take to make the blankets and distribute them to local agencies.
Although I am still so supportive of this organization I had to request a closing of the chapter due to various reasons.
1. Having 3 kids, working part-time, being actively involved with church, etc... (I'm busy basically and I just keep getting busier)
2. A woman who says she is a supporter of Project Linus has sabotaged my chapter. It is a VERY long story but I just don't have time in my already busy life to deal with a GROWN woman who consistently acts like a child.
I absolutely love this organization I tell you! It is fabulous and the president and co-president are incredible women who are just as sweet as can be. I appreciate their supportive attitude in my decision to resign.
Please check out the Project Linus website and if you feel lead to support this organization I encourage you to do so. Look up your local chapter and even if you don't sew you will be greatly blessed by the various ways you could help out.
